Sweet Syndrome

Recruitment case on 11/8/19 was about a patient with IBD presenting with high fever, headaches and pustular rash. Physical exam and biopsy were consistent with Sweet Syndrome, which is often associated with IBD but can also be seen in cancer,pregnancy or drug-related. A lot of other IBD and non-IBD assocaited rashes were discussed and can be seen here sweet – 11.8

 

Teaching points from today:

  • Develop framework for categorizing rashes

  • Distinguish common IBD-associated rashes

  • Generate differential for nodular, plaquing, purulent lesion in immune compromised patients

  • Sweet syndrome is a inflammatory syndrome characterized by systemic symptoms and neutrophilic infiltration of the skin
