Roberto Leon-Ferre, MD
Universidad Catolica de Santiago de Guayaquil (2007)
Roberto grew up in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He received his medical degree from the Catholic University of Guayaquil, Ecuador in 2007. After graduating, he spent about a year working as a physician for an underserved population in rural Ecuador, providing primary care for the poorest in the country. Following this experience, he pursued further training and elective rotations in the US, spending time in Academic Institutions in Florida, Connecticut and Minnesota. He then completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Iowa in 2013. Following his year as Chief Resident, Roberto plans to pursue a fellowship in Hematology-Oncology, continuing to incorporate clinical research and education as part of his career.
Roberto is married to Paola. In their free time, they enjoy kayaking and paddle boarding. They also enjoy star gazing when weather conditions allow. They love the movies and watching multiple TV series together (their DVR is full most of the time). They enjoy going out and trying the different gastronomic options that the Iowa City/Coralville area offers, but also like to stay at home and prepare traditional Ecuadorian dishes for their friends to try.
